The late Summer 2026 exhibition in the main space at Mahtay Café & Lounge in Downtown St. Catharines is Melissa Cammisuli | THE EVOLUTION OF A HOMEBODY.
Melissa Cammisuli is a self-taught artist, letter-writer, and animal lover based in St. Catharines, Ontario where her practice focuses on the animals that make her house a home.
The words of the artist :
“The Evolution of a Homebody features three different series that were started during COVID. As a self-taught artist who has been sketching and painting since childhood, fine art was never at the forefront. During COVID, I decided to make art a priority and develop a regular practice. This show follows the development of this practice and it’s different forms. These works are made up of experimentation and discovery, all leading up to my most recent series, Homebody. This series is unapologetic self-portrait of my home and how those spaces, which are usually occupied by animals, has become my safe, cozy sanctuary.”
