ROBERT ‘BEAR’ ROYAL | LANDSCAPES, FLORA AND FAUNA

The exhibition Robert ‘Bear’ Royal | Landscapes, Flora and Fauna was on view at at Mahtay Café & Lounge in downtown St. Catharines for the month of April 2024.

An excerpt from the artist’s statement :

“Reclaimed wood possesses a haunting beauty in its visual record of the ravages of time. Nature’s plants, animals and landscapes are the perfect subject with which to display this beauty of the old and weathered- the “death and dying” side of nature’s balance. The patinas of old wood make for a moving visual experience because they are a reminder of time’s passing and more importantly our place in it. This resonates with us at a very deep level, evoking emotions through our interaction with the art.”

You can see more of Royal’s work at @bear.wood.creations on Instagram.

I would like to thank the City of St. Catharines, specifically their SCCIP Program, for supporting this endeavour.
