TAMARA SUTTON | NEW PAINTINGS

TAMARA SUTTON | NEW PAINTINGS is in the main space at Mahtay Café & Lounge in Downtown St. Catharines and will be on display for the month of October 2025.

She is a Niagara-based Encaustic artist. Her works are inspired by nature and the beauty of the Niagara Region.

Tamara’s love of creating art started at an early age with her first exhibition going back to kindergarten when her drawing of a bunny was exhibited at Rodman Hall. Her artist abilities were handed down from her mother.

Currently, Tamara’s medium of choice is Encaustic, which is an ancient painting medium of beeswax, damar resin and pigments. Her love for Encaustics began in 2011 after studying under artist Jan Yates. She was captivated by the organic nature of the medium and the lusciousness of the flowing wax. Tamara has taken many online Encaustics courses and in 2023 she travelled to Ireland to study Encaustics at The Essence of Mulranny Art Studio.

Tamara retired from her corporate position in August 2023 and is now pursuing Art as a second career. She has exhibited locally and has works in private collections in Canada and the US. She has currently joined the Jordan Art Gallery where her artwork can be viewed. Tamara is a Board member of the St. Catharines Art Association and currently serves as Treasurer.

More of her artwork can be seen here.

This show marks THREE YEARS that I’ve been curating the space and platforming Niagara visual artists and as of this time, there are artists tentatively slated until early 2027.
